This tour will focus on Charles Town during the 1859 - 1865 period.
Route: Start at the Museum - walk west on Washington to George - walk south on George to Hunter - walk east on Hunter to Samuel - walk north on Samuel back to the Museum.

    Early Charles Town Tour: "west end"


    Early Charles Town Tour-the tour will visit the sites of many of the cities earliest surviving structures. Emphasis will be on the very earliest structures occupied by the tradesman, ordinaries and service providers that made Charles Town a stop for early travelers. Most will be from the time of Charles Washington in Charles Town from his purchase of land ca 1770 until his death in 1799. Some that predate his purchase in 1770 will be noted. While 2011 is the 225th anniversary of the founding of Charles Town in 1786, the early history suggests the line is blurred when we consider that there was the start of a village that predates the actual founding.
